About the Role
The School of Social and Political Sciences is seeking a recognised expert in Anthropology. As the successful candidate, you will make a significant contribution to the Discipline and the School’s research culture and reputation through the development of your own individual profile and also as a member of a collegial team of scholars working in Anthropology.

The teaching portfolio for this position will be across the Anthropology program at undergraduate and Honours levels and will contribute to curriculum development and supervise student research projects at the honours level.

In addition to the responsibilities in research and teaching, you will also be responsible for performing leadership and administrative tasks commensurate with the level of appointment and should be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and be an active contributor to the discipline and school.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials and seminars into the Anthropology major and honours program
  • Subject Coordination, including the selection and supervision of tutors
  • Producing research leading to high-quality publications in leading international refereed journals and publishers in line with the Faculty of Arts minimum expectations
  • Involvement in professional activity, including participation in meetings of professional societies

About You
You will be an outstanding researcher in Anthropology, and a committed and engaging teacher. You will have a highly regarded record in research with a developing publication profile in relevant high-quality journals and publishing houses commensurate with the stage of your career.

You will also have:

  • A completed PhD in Anthropology or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated specialisation in research that supports and complements the existing Anthropology profile of the University of Melbourne
  • Capacity to attract international and/or national competitive research funding (e.g. research grants and/or consultancies)
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching Anthropology and related subjects at the undergraduate and honours level, including the capacity to initiate subject/course development and teach high enrolment undergraduate subjects.
