Our government client is seeking a Road Access Officer to join their team, based out of either their Grafton or Coffs Harbour offices. The position offers a hybrid Work From Office / Home option (3 days in office per week). This role assists with managing access to the transport network for planned road projects (including Road Occupancy Licences), including liaising with infrastructure and maintenance delivery partners and contractors to facilitate access while managing and minimising the impact to road users, and supporting the safe, efficient and reliable movements of goods and people across regional outer-metropolitan NSW.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Assess and process applications for road access, including analysing traffic volumes and network capacity and constraints to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the network and compliance with relevant policies and legislation.
  • Provide advice to stakeholders on the suitability of routes and locations for oversize and over mass vehicles and for works to ensure quality and consistent adjudication on applications.
  • Provide expert advice to operations management, industry, police and the public on mass and dimension limits and road access requirements.
  • Liaise with internal and external business partners and stakeholders on conditions applicable to road access.
  • Provide administrative support, including drafting replies to correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Review and report on the currency and accuracy of electronic and printed data relating to road access, routes/locations and access conditions as required by the Road Access Managers.
  • Assist in the review of legally enforceable network maps for accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Assist in the compilation of data to support the assessment of permit applications for all restricted access vehicles, including Class 1, 2 & 3.

To be successful you will require:

  • Experience in transport / traffic management planning
  • Experience using Web Portals and Mapping.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • General understanding of heavy vehicle types.
  • Ability to interpret legislation relating to heavy vehicles.
  • Customer service focus and excellent communication skills.
