Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa Program Support Office has been established to support the Office of the Commissioner, and to provide information and culturally appropriate support to applicants about the application process for Cultural Recognition Orders as well as make referrals for optional legal advice, community based counselling services, and undertake community engagement.

Key responsibilities of this role

  • Assist potential applicants to make an application for a cultural recognition order in seeking legal recognition of tradition child rearing practices including making referral to legal and support services.
  • Assist the Commissioner perform their functions under the Act by providing the necessary support to ensure the proper, efficient and effective performance of the office.
  • Support strategic initiatives by coordinating and contributing to the Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa Program, as well as maintaining, updating and monitoring the Information Management System Database.
  • Establish, maintain and support relationships/networks/partnerships between communities, service providers and other stakeholders, including all levels of government, non-government organisations and the appropriate community organisations to enable the sharing of process information through practical and effective ways.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, submissions, briefs, memoranda, and correspondence in relation to community and economic participation projects and initiatives.
  • Support community engagement processes, including the monitoring and reporting of actions and outcomes from these processes that deliver benefits to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Assist with the review of development, implementation and maintenance of the information systems.
  • All staff are responsible for identifying, managing and reporting risks relating to their work in DSDSATSIP.
