The Role
The duties of an APS6 Project & Finance Support Officer occupation in Defence include the following:

  • Provide operational support to project management and facilitate administrative and coordination.
  • Responsible for Project related financial transactions including raising and amending purchase orders, confirming goods receipt and processing of invoices for payment, using Defence financial systems, completing financial and procurement documents in finance and procurement systems, procurement support and assisting with the Enterprise Resource Planning role mapping.
  • Responsible for a broad range of activities including task management; procurement support; unit security; information management, governance and reporting.
  • Support the SPO Finance Officer to manage the monthly project broadsheet financial reviews, provide regular reporting for senior executives, contribute to budget preparation and financial performance monitoring.
  • Work collaboratively, operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feedback.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders and understand their expectations.
  • Research, draft and prepare briefs, correspondence and reports including submissions for SPO executives.
  • Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.
  • Manage and prioritise workflows and resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.

About our Team
The EWIS J&A SPO undertakes the acquisition and through-life-support of assigned Joint and Air Electronic Warfare Capabilities used by the Australian Defence Force. It delivers countermeasures development and validation services and supports a number of projects being delivered to the Intelligence and Security Group.

You will be a part of the Business Management team with 6 dedicated team members delivering support to project and product teams, financial management, security services, recruitment and HR services, risk management, quality management and governance, data and records management, commercial management, learning and development, and work, health and safety.

Our Ideal Candidate
Within the Project Control function an APS6 Project & Finance Support Officer is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex project work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

An APS6 Project & Finance Support Officer will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. They will provide detailed project technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

An APS6 Project & Finance Support Officer may be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.

An APS6 Project & Finance Support Officer will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
