The Role :


We currently have several Maternity Ward Clerk shifts/positions available in our busy Maternity and Prenatal Area (Maternity Assessment Centre). In this position you will be working over 4 Wards areas: Maternity, Birthing Suite, Neonatal Unit and Maternity Assessment Centre.

Days and Times are as follows based on a fortnightly roster:

Saturday – 900am – 4pm


Maternity Assessment Centre

Tuesday – 900am – 530pm

Thursday – 900am – 530pm

Friday - 900am – 530pm

Saturday – 900am – 4pm

Sunday – 900am – 4pm



Maternity Unit

Tuesday - 230pm – 1130pm

Wednesday – 230pm -1130pm

Thursday - 230pm – 1130pm

Friday – 230pm – 1130pm

Maternity Unit

Monday - 230pm – 1130pm

Tuesday – 230pm -1130pm

Saturday - 230pm – 1130pm

Sunday – 230pm – 1130pm



We are hoping to give these shifts to at least two applicants, that are also available to pick up additional shifts on other days.


We are looking for someone in this role, who has worked in a hospital or fast paced environment. As a Ward Clerk, you are responsible for providing administrative support and assistance to patients and their families upon their arrival at the hospital. You will also assist clinical teams by coordinating the necessary clerical requirements for patients’ admission to discharge.


Responsibilities of this job include:


  • Patient movement scheduling processes to ensure appropriate bed management and utilisation;
  • Managing incoming and outgoing calls to the front reception desk;
  • Provide timely and accurate information to queries by patients, visitors and other staff and departments;
  • Work alongside and support clinical staff, patients and visitors to ensure a smooth hospital experience for patients;
  • Compilation and management of patient clinical documentation;
  • Entry of domiciliary appointments and support the Domiciliary Coordinator with administrative tasks;
  • Entry of attendances, admission and discharges onto IPM and booking of follow up appointments;
  • Assist the Maternity Wards with any other tasks as required.

To be successful in this role you will have:


  • Worked in a hospital or fast pace environment.
  • Experience in a medical setting will be highly desired, though not essential.
  • Excellent data entry skills and attention to detail.
  • An enthusiastic personality with a strong administrative skillset and a passion for customer service and enjoys being part of a busy environment.
  • The ability to converse and be empathetic while managing a busy flow of admissions and discharges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a team of clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Experience with Patient Administration Systems.
