ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The focus of an SAP Architect’s expertise is typically in the planning and design phases of a Digital Transformation Project based on SAP S/4 and other SAP Solutions. However, it could also be leveraged on strategic corporate initiatives such as business process improvement initiatives or developing ongoing architectural governance processes. The engagement model of an Architect is not strictly limited to the planning/design phases, but may also span the build and operations phases to ensure proper implementation and operationalization of the designed business solutions. This will be related S/4 HANA projects making sure the transition from existing processes and systems to the S/4 HANA world (cloud, on-premise or hybrid) are as efficient, effective and valueadding as possible.


EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS:

Focus of Business Process Architects

On the basis of the client’s scope, requirements and business strategy within a certain area, a Business Process Architect is able to

  • Review client as-is processes (typically in SAP ECC) and create the target operating model based on S/4HANA standard and best practises with the high-level to-be process model and delta descriptions.
  • Design detailed industry and customer specific to-be processes and the solution design based on process requirements, application and system landscape


Business Process Architects evaluate customer requirements, map them to business processes, functional and solution architectures and ensure a proper implementation from an solution architecture point of view. For this they:

  • Design detailed end-to-end industry-specific / corporate customer to-be processes
  • Identify the appropriate end-to-end solution portfolio options and recommendations
  • Identify solution gaps and develop gap closure options
  • Design the end-to-end functional landscape and solution design, including the functional integration points, applicable standards and governance


Leadership. Business Process Architects can independently lead or execute complex assignments and deliverables. They can coach project and team members on solution architectural topics and they have content knowledge to propose functional solutions in their domain.


Advisory / Delivery. Tasks in Detail

Plan

  • Analyze and validate the client’s business and IT requirements, considering where applicable his business strategy and business drivers, relevant industry trends, key pain points, challenges and priorities with focus on your area of expertise in Supply Chain, LE, Procurement and/or Sales.
  • Define the high level end-to-end industry-specific / corporate customer business processes (e.g. Process Levels 1-3) and derive the lower level business processes (e.g. Process Levels 4-5)
  • Model and ensure the alignment of the business processes with the overall business model, the business objectives and requirements and including, as applicable, all relevant management, operational and support processes with the corresponding events, goals, inputs, outputs, information and resources.
  • Identify the appropriate end-to-end solution portfolio, considering all relevant SAP solution and service offerings, such as Best Practices, Preferred Success a.o. with focus on leverage of SAP reusable content.
  • Identify solution gaps, develop gap closure options such as the inclusion of components from the Industry cloud or customer-specific developments.
  • Identify cross-process and cross-solution integration points between SAP solutions, legacy systems, ISV components and BTP and lead the orchestration across the various software and service components of the end-to-end solutionl
  • Work with the Technical Architect on technical integration and infrastructure planning
  • Where applicable, define or take part in defining architectural standards, principles and the governance framework and processes to manage stakeholder decisions and safeguard the integrity of the solution architecture through the implementation phase


Build

  • Provide direction to or be a part of the implementation teams during solution realization and work as intermediary across the local, near shore and offshore delivery streams and the different solution domains to ensure overall alignment
  • Participate, as necessary, in training, system setup, testing, documentation and maintenance support activities
  • Where applicable, lead or take part in the architectural governance function/processes during the implementation (ensure the ongoing alignment of business architecture, functional architecture and technical architecture from a functional/solution perspective),
  • Keep track and coordinate the resolution of integration issues
  • When required, analyze changes necessary to the solution architecture triggered by changes in business requirements, processes or technical requirements, develop options to incorporate the changes and take/facilitate the appropriate decisions
  • Lead solution architecture related project quality management tasks such as peer and quality reviews of specifications, design documents and code reviews
  • Take responsibility from time to time as team lead and support line manager(s) in people development tasks


Run

  • If requested, support value tracking and reporting after go-live, in particular in view of the customer value realized by the proposed business processes and corresponding solution architecture design
  • Drive business development, consumption and adoption of all solutions
  • Generate and support license and services sales cycles by providing architectural, solution and industry expertise, in alignment with SAP’s service strategy


Thought Leadership / Knowledge Management

  • Lead and contribute as an expert to related KM communities
  • Identify opportunities for service productization and drive the definition and creation of pre-defined services in the respective area of expertise
  • Actively follow and share developments and trends regarding new SAP and complementary partner service and solution offerings, industry trends and other topic areas relevant for the solution architecture domain


WORK EXPERIENCE:

Work Experience

  • Generally eight or more years of experience in process implementation in customer facing roles related to solution architecture and implementation topics


Functional & Industry Experience

  • Expert in Digital Supply Chain, Sales, Procurement and/or LE, in at least one Industry and familiar with the relevant industry trends and business strategies and models, industry specific business processes, challenges, business drivers/pain points and related best-practice solution architectures
  • Expert in at least two functional topics within the relevant solution area, preferable on S4 level in cloud solutions.
  • Deep understanding of SAP’s solution and service offerings including LoB cloud solutions, S4HANA ERP, pre-defined services and implementation models
  • Can leverage deep knowledge of business domain during problem definition, solution architecture and design, implementation and user adoption phases of projects and can communicate this at client C-Level
  • Expert knowledge in functional integration and cross-solution issues
  • Expert in applying methods of process and solution modeling based on SAP and non-SAP solutions in one or more industries
  • Has comprehensive track record and experience with complex implementation projects , including the coordination and decision facilitation of process and architecture related issues, can effectively moderate between Client, Partners and SAP, Business and IT
  • Active member of the SAP Knowledge communities


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor, Masters or equivalent degree
  • English Fluent plus at least one of the National Languages.
