Corporate Planning and Financial Services (CPFS) exists to define the system through which our organization will plan, monitor, and improve corporate sustainability, value and performance, and report the results to departments, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and Council. The Service Excellence function reporting into the Chief Financial Officer / General Manager, CPFS, will work on projects that steward the definition of CPFS services and lead the operation and continuous improvement of our service-based approach.

As a Business Strategist, you will link the business planning, budgeting, and improvement initiatives together within a business unit or service and across business units and service lines to ensure continuity of CPFS goals and deliverables. You will also manage and coordinate improvement initiatives within and across business units to ensure that CPFS services remain efficient and effective, delivering the right services at the right cost and service level to our internal and external customers and partners. Primary duties include:

  • Manage complex service improvement and technology update projects within a particular CPFS business unit and/or across CPFS business units:
    • Business Process Reengineering: facilitate the review and creation of new processes that have the potential to reduce time, reduce errors, and/or reduce the cost.
    • Implement new software or updates to existing software: research options, facilitate requirements gathering (both business and technical), project manage development, and training and change management for employees affected.
    • Manage other improvement initiatives generated by the CPFS Management team, Council, and policy.
    • Act as the advisor for the governance and related matters.
  • Facilitate business planning activities at the departmental and service level for the creation of service plans and budgets, accountability reporting, risk reporting, and internal departmental reporting for CPFS services.
  • Facilitate planning sessions, formulates surveys, presentations, and agendas. Develop and lead process to gather, analyze, and organize information on emerging issues, industry trends, internal and external partners/customer needs, and other business information.
  • Keep track of and summarize the status of Council related requests that impact CPFS services.
  • Learn and apply best practices of service improvement to help CPFS services deliver high quality services efficiently, effectively, and competitively.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Planning, Political Science, Finance or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience in applying information strategically and providing business advice.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, and Council report writing would be considered as asset.
  • Experience with successfully implementing process and service improvement initiatives is essential.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills as well as the ability to prioritize, build consensus among internal/external partners and influence without authority.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $44.20 – 59.09 per hour Days of Work: This position works a 5 day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
