Wage: $21.75 per hour


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safe and efficient operation of equipment in the packaging department and cellars used for the processing of wine. Including the understanding and functions from bottling room storage tanks to the final pack aging and palletizing of cases.
  • Comfortable working around equipment and performing packaging duties and tasks
  • Safe and efficient operation of all equipment and machinery in the Bottling Room to include, but not limited to the following:
    • Bottle feed equipment, carton and bottle conveyors, fillers, capper and Cork machine, capsule applicator, drop packer, case sealer, check weigher, SCC sticker applicator, filters, bag line and all its components and equipment
  • Handle components (i.e., Closures, capsules, labels, etc.) in proper time and procedure as to maximize line efficiency.
  • Responsibility for the quality of packaging, correct case markings, and completing all required quality and food safety checks and paperwork.
  • Keep the equipment and machinery and the surrounding area clean during operations, without causing down time.
  • Assist in setting up the machines and equipment for bottling during product changeovers
  • Complete basic equipment troubleshooting and implement corrective actions. Request maintenance for breakdowns and assist them as required.
  • Safe operations of Pallet Jacks and recharging system.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and training to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities with regards to high-speed manufacturing and wine bottling.
  • Participate in packaging statin rotation grogram as assigned

  • Maintaining quality standards through effective application of GMP and HACCP
  • General housekeeping in the cellars – cleaning out garbage/recycling containers, cleaning sample bottles, exterior of tanks, floors etc.
  • Following written and/or oral procedures and policies, reporting any deviations
  • Perform any other assigned work, as required.

Health & Safety

  • Ability to understand and enforce safety requirements and cautions
  • Effectively share required information with employees in a way that results in positive behavior regarding safe work procedures
  • Understand the company safety procedures and the JHSC policies and procedures and address people undertaking unsafe actions when required
  • Proactively suggest alternatives and improvements to management
  • Participate as a guest in JHSC meetings when necessary
  • Notify Lead Hand or supervisor of defective equipment and tag it out-of-service if required
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, SOPs and obtain manuals if required
  • Participate in toolbox/crew talks and provide positive and constructive feedback when required.

Continuous Improvements

  • Continue to learn and increase knowledge, skills and ability with regards to winemaking procedures and cellar practices.
  • Assist with the training of seasonal employees on packaging SOP’s while following GMP, HACCP, Canadian Organic Regime and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Recognize and report any problems/equipment failures/equipment repairs and notify a supervisor or maintenance employee immediately.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement and Lean projects as necessary.

Quality and Productivity

  • Ensure that the cleanliness of the packaging department meets good winery practices – sanitation and tidiness
  • Understand the importance of our organic and food safety programs (HACCP) and how to prevent cross contamination while working with both conventional and organic wines.
  • Understand the importance of our Organic program and the certification of it
  • Recognize and report any problems and spoilage of products.
  • Voice team concerns to the Lead Hand and/or management and provide solutions.
  • Coach others who require additional training to elevate the overall skill of the competency of the department
  • Identify the source of defects/issues and assist in determining the root cause and how to prevent a re-occurrence in the future
  • Competently demonstrate job/task/assignment to department personnel and provide training when required

Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work in all areas of the winery both within and outside the building and meet the physical requirements of all aspects of the job.
  • This position requires coverage for all shifts.
  • Ability to lift at reach, bend and lift up to 50lbs and willingness to work flexible hours when needed including overtime
  • BC forklift driving certification an asset
