At Caterpillar’s Indonesia Batam, we manufacture Hydraulic Shovels products used in building the infrastructure and mining to move materials that makes a better world.

Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Engineer position works both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in product manufacturing.

As Manufacturing Engineer (Torque), you will provide expertise in Assembly areas of the manufacturing process to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective manufacture of products. This is a staff position which is expected to function as a specialist with respect to a specific technical phase of the planning function and which falls within the major areas of releasing, assembly process, layout, work standards and manufacturing development. Work assignments may be specialized in nature but may also be broad based with coordination between other staff personnel to complete a larger project.

As the Manufacturing Engineer (Torque), you will:

  • Read, understand, and relate the engineering drawings to tooling/torque sequence and process.

  • Established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties area.

  • Develop working instructions, covering tooling or torque practice, ergonomics, workmanship standards and process documents , and ensure they are followed.

  • Fully participate as required in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities where assembly operations are required.

  • Address problems in processing, programming, tool design, standards development and application, acquisition of tools and equipment, layout, processing, material composition, assembly planning, etc.

  • Maintain awareness of technological advances in processing, material composition, automation of material movement and /or machine capability. This knowledge is used to provide input into project assignments in an Assembly area of the shop.

  • Evaluate and investigate shop problems and follow-up on recommendations. You will work within defined procedures and guidelines but have the latitude to evaluate and solve common manufacturing process problems. Guidance is available from Senior Manufacturing Engineers and Manufacturing Project Engineers.

  • Evaluate engineering change notices, determines any part or process change, initiates, and implements all changes.

  • Assists with the more complex issues related to deciding capital requirements, developing systems or databases, or equipment and systems integration.

  • Provides evaluation and recommendations needed to allow manufacturing to produce engineering product designs. Provides effective communication and services in solving production problems or pursuing operations improvements. Simulates present and future machine lines and cells to predict line flow problems and makes recommendations for implementation.

The successful candidate must bring:

  • Good proficiency in English.

  • University degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering-related degree.

  • Minimum of 3 (three) years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or similar role.

  • Understanding hydraulic schematics, diagrams, and torquing process.

Top candidates will also bring:

  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment with thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts related to assembly process.

  • Able to create 3D (3 Dimension) design using design software like SolidWorks, Teamcenter, JT2go, etc.

  • Experience in improvement projects with Six Sigma or other methodology.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • This job requires extensive active movement throughout the plant including climbing stairs and steps, lifting devices, and pushing and pulling equipment.

Work location: Batam, Kepulauan Riau

You will work both in an office and manufacturing shop-floor environment.

Domestic relocation is available for this position.
