Basic Qualifications
Scholarship : Welding Engineering and 5 years experience or university degree in an appropriate manufacturing or engineering related field with 10 years experience in welding.
English : Avanzado
Experiencie : Requires in depth working knowledge of welding safety; welding processes; (For Internal candidates, CAT specs 1E0099, 1E2111, and H2.
2; MQ12005) ; and welding process control methods; (For external candidates, AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code Steel)
Understands the fundamentals of welding metallurgy, quality systems, external welding specifications, engineering standards and specifications, manufacturing practices and specifications, robotics, process modeling (CREO), Lean Manufacturing , testing processes and procedures, and project management.
Staff and supervisory assignments in maintenance, repair, and related areas
Behavioral skills :
Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
Job Description
To provide technical expertise, guidance, and ownership of all welding-related activities for the facility and serves as an enterprise resource for welding-related activities.
The Facility Welding Engineer is a functional position that is required by 1E0099 Arc Welding specification for all fabrication facilities.
This role is essential in maintaining the required quality level in welded structures and components. This role will be filled as a supervisory position.
Responsibilities :
This position requires a high degree of experience and expertise in various or specific fields of welding such as welding process, field repair, welding quality, metallurgy, etc.
Incumbent needs to have a good understanding of product design to combine with process design expertise to provide for improved manufacturability of parts and major components.
This position is the Process Owner of the Facility Weld Quality Plan. Responsible to complete and maintain all aspect of the weld quality plan including welder, weld process, weld equipment, and welding materials qualifications to Caterpillar Inc.
standards. Responsible to see that the welding procedure database as well as a database for welder qualifications are maintained and up to date.
Makes the final determination on additional training and qualification of welders who have been identified as having quality concerns.
Maintains a scorecard on Weld Quality Plan implementation and reports progress and issues to the facility management team as stakeholders in the process.
Supervises a group of welding technicians, welding engineers, and / or robotics engineers in the support of the listed job duties.
Must be a good communicator and possess leadership skills commensurate with the position.
Acts as liaison between engineering and manufacturing on welding related issues. Serves on or designates a delegate for all NPI teams.
Attends all NPI gate reviews.
Liaison with fabrication suppliers on welding related issues to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems or operations to produce quality products.
Works with Product Support to assist with Field Repair Procedures.
Coordinates the implementation of new technology in the facility. Provides the VOC to new technology developers. Develops innoscriptidual presentations on all integration projects and prepares and establishes priorities for cost effectiveness.
Performs liaison duties with various functional areas to promote smooth transition.
Conduct and / or review welding related failure analysis.
Represents the facility on enterprise initiatives such as : Synergy teams, Manufacturing practice & Engineering Specification reviews, Common Weld Quality Plan team, etc.
Represents the facility and enterprise on external welding related committees.
Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, CPS transformation etc.
in performing assigned duties.
This position is in charge of managing the technical training area in addition to coordinate audits related on standard work, 5s, program, guardian, etc.
