Job responsibilities

  • Assisting in Malaysia corporate tax (both direct and indirect) compliance, tax planning, tax advisory and tax risk management for the JPM Group.
  • Coverage includes all Malaysian entities and business units.
  • Partner with functional groups including local business units and other local support groups, amongst others.

Overall Purpose of the Job

Key objectives of your role will include:
  • Assist in managing corporate taxes (both direct and indirect) compliance for internal and external tax reporting, transfer pricing, stamp duty, withholding tax, etc. Main activities including but not limited to :
    • Preparation and review of income tax and SST returns, TP documentations tax estimation and tax payments.
    • Review of quarterly tax provision and supervise tax balances on general ledger, including deferred tax and monitoring effective tax rate.
    • Provide tax support in financial statement audits
    • Review and provide advisory support on FATCA and CRS matters
    • Provide support on Tax Corporate Governance Framework
    • Managing Malaysia tax audits and support similar reviews in other jurisdictions (including US)
  • Assist in providing direct and indirect tax advisory support to Malaysia business units and on tax compliance matters. Support Malaysia tax team in performing research, planning and transactions/projects
  • Work closely with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders to address tax issues and other non-tax related transactions/initiatives to effectively manage the related tax risks.
  • Adherence to the JPM Group`s tax policies and anticipate, manage and communicate tax risks as necessary.
  • Analysing tax law changes and assist to identify opportunities to optimize the tax positions of the Malaysian entities.
  • Process improvement initiatives e.g. Automation of tax provision, SST returns, WHT and stamp duty processes
  • Support regional corporate tax, finance, business, and other non-tax led projects and possibly have additional exposure to Singapore tax

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Degree in Accountancy or equivalent Accountancy qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years of related working experience
  • Experience within the financial services industry working with offshore Centre of Excellence is preferred
  • Meticulous with strong analytical skills and a high aptitude for numbers and Excel proficiency
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others in a fast paced environment
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian tax law / practice
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
