Job Description


The Director of Corporate Technology for IT Services is responsible for the strategic and engineering capability leadership of the applications and infrastructure which serice the corporate functions. This global role will lead the delivery of large-scale initiatives that drive process transformation, improve control, scalability, and compliance, and optimize the use of technology. You identify technology solutions to meet evolving business needs with a deep understanding of application and technology lifecycle management. You are aware of the evolution of related technologies and consider regulations relevant to the business area.

Enterprise engineering capabilities include office network infrastructure, voice platform, contact center, user endpoints (laptops), corporate identity, server and database infrastructure, collaboration, and productivity tooling, audio-visual conference technologies, and internal development tools that support the Booking organization.

You will liaise frequently with our core platforms organization, security, and engineering teams across Booking.com, but also with finance, HR, service delivery & operations, customer service, BHFS, our CTO and others.

As our Director of Corporate Technology for IT Services, you will lead and support the corporate IT engineering teams. Leveraging a Zero trust architectural framework you are responsible for strategizing and supporting our mission critical core services around identity (Okta), Saas tooling and our Collaboration stack, corporate Infrastructure and Cloud adoption, the modernising of the booking.com voice and contact center platforms to support our customers (visitors and partners), user endpoint devices (laptops, mobile), our office infrastructure (Network and Video Conferencing) and a team of software engineers who focus on internal integration and products such as Booking benefits..

This is a newly created position aimed to accelerate our Corporate Technology team (IT Services, in particular) with thought and technical leadership as we continue growing and advancing our company efforts towards the connected trip. It's a exciting time to join Booking.com in the middle of a cloud enablement journey.

Your Responsibilities

People & Function leadership

  • Lead, inspire and motivate your function
  • Line manage Senior Managers as well as top technical talent, such as Principals Team of 104 FTEs with 7 direct reports
  • Communicate strategy in a compelling manner to multiple teams and relevant stakeholders
  • Foster inclusion by holding self and others accountable
  • Drive people centric initiatives that enable workforce diversity
  • Partner in and outside of our Business unit to lead and shape the people agenda across Booking.com, Trips business unit, Fareharbor, BHFS

Technology, Craft & Delivery leadership

  • Lead, influence and own delivery within your function including department goals
  • Partner with other functions and business units to deliver on our strategic agenda around Service Model, Zero Trust and Cloud enablement
  • Maintain focus on the end goal, minimise risk and remove roadblocks for our strategic agenda
  • Ensure clear and effective communication at all levels: proactively keep all stakeholders informed of what’s happening, upcoming changes, projects, issues and risks
  • Foster mastery in engineering craftsmanship across Booking.com including shaping ways of working
  • Own Technology-wide topics and help lead and grow the department
  • Embed Agile ways of working and values within the organisation
  • Identify problems and significantly improve, change or adapt existing methods and techniques drawing from personal experiences and feedback
  • Responsible for fiscal planning for your organisation.

Technology, Architecture, Product Strategy

  • Assess requirements, research, recommend, and design vital solutions/tools to enhance productivity, security, and cost-effectiveness of technologies.
  • Lead, take ownership and shape the technology strategic objectives and roadmaps
  • Be a strategic thought partner and influence stakeholders across the company and the broader business to set and align the strategic direction of your function
  • Lead delivery of large-scale initiatives that drive process transformation, improve control, scalability, and compliance, and optimise the use of technology
  • Make decisions in complex and ambiguous situations, and guide others in their decision making by recognizing and challenging assumptions, introducing relevant data and multiple perspectives.
  • Ensure that the Booking architecture principles and engineering practices are adhered to, and that there is direction and alignment for each product.
  • Anticipate the need for changes based on context, and set renewed courses of action to engage teams and achieve goals, while striving to make the impact clear
  • Develop mechanisms that drive operational and engineering excellence.
  • Develop communications (e.g., presentations, scorecards, story-telling, emails) to share progress of initiatives, garner sponsorship, and encourage adoption.
  • Drive innovation and automation to minimise the deployment time of new services, infrastructure, and geographic regions.
  • Drive a service-oriented mindset across team
