Network Controller

New Plymouth

We have a vacancy for an Operator in our Network Operation Centre based in New Plymouth.

You will be part of the team who are responsible for the real-time operation of Powerco’s High Voltage electricity distribution networks (on a 24/7 shift basis on a shift pattern – 2 days / 2 nights). Our Network Controllers are at the heart of what we do. During the recent Cyclone Gabrielle, our Network Control team (working with others) worked tirelessly to ensure the safe and speedy reconnection of customers and communities.

The role is busy and works closely with several teams to coordinate and monitor field activities in response to planned network outages, fault restoration and emergencies. Our Network Control team is soon to benefit from the roll out of industry leading technology (ADMS/OMS) as part of our continuous improvement journey.

Key responsibilities include the safety of people, protection of assets, the electricity network reliability and operational communication. A full PD is attached.

This role will suit a team player who believes we are better together, is confident in their electrical knowledge and experience and can lean on this to think on their feet. A background in switch writing, protection or engineering would ensure you hit the ground running. Extensive training is provided in this role to ensure confidence and competence.

To successfully fill the role you will need:

  • A level 5 Electrical Registration, a background in Electricity Distribution Network operating would be desirable
  • Exceptional technical skills
  • To be a committed team player
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to be confident and decisive during demanding situations (such as storms, unplanned outages)
  • To be highly competent with technology

And have knowledge of:

  • High voltage isolation and access procedures and network operating practices
  • Risk management concepts
  • Electricity Network Health and Safety requirements.
  • Electrical Protection Systems

Applications close: Friday 31 March 2023

Our ability to get the best out of people is what sets Powerco apart. We realise that candidates – especially from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds – often won’t apply for roles unless they meet ALL the criteria. We encourage anyone who shares our passion for connecting communities to apply for any role that aligns to your strengths and interests. We will provide a safe space where you can bring your whole self to work and thrive.
