Due to ongoing growth and innovation across our farm aquaculture operations we have established three Farm Worker – Leading Hand roles to support our oyster farm operations in Northland.

Reporting to the Farm & Site Manager you day to day responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Support the allocation of day-to-day allocation of planned activities to team
  • Skipper of oyster farm vessel (barge); coordination of tasks related too deployment of flip farm lines and removal of old infrastructure and maintenance relates tasks.
  • As a skipper, be responsible for a barge and crew on board, ensuring full compliance maritime rules and regulations.
  • Provide guidance for and support to the farm crew in following correct procedures i.e., stocking baskets and best in class oyster husbandry practices.
  • Ensure that data systems e.g., Smart Oysters is updated accurately with correct stocking density, size and location
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the demands of the tide/weather conditions. Ensure work planned is arranged to prevent minimal downtime in conjunction with the Farm & Site Manager and Farm Supervisor.

You must be able to demonstrate you are a team player, reliable, respectful, and hard working. You will possess a great attitude, be easy to work with, and no job is to small or big for you to tackle and become the best at doing.

Key criteria:

  • At least two years Aquaculture farming experience or 1 year Aquaculture farming experience and a relevant tertiary qualification in Aquaculture/Marine Science or equivalent
  • Commitment to Health & Safety
  • Competent Skipper (valid licence required)
  • Task orientated, with track record for delivering agreed outcomes on time
  • Full & Clean NZ Driver’s License and transport to/from work
  • Ability to work weekends
