Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role

Responsible to the Manager Disability Services, the purpose of this position is:

  • To provide information, advice and guidance to disabled learners, with a particular focus on Māori and Pacific disabled learners.
  • To assess the support needs of disabled learners and develop a plan to mitigate those needs.
  • To provide information, advice and guidance to the colleagues who teach and support disabled learners.
  • To assist in the coordination of support for disabled learners to enable them to participate fully in their studies.
  • To work collaboratively with Ara colleagues to ensure that Ara becomes an increasingly inclusive environment in which the needs of disabled learners are consistently met.

Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience

  • At least one year's experience of working with Disabled people in an empowering role or a willingness and aptitude to develop these skills.
  • An understanding of the demands of a tertiary learning environment, particularly as these impacts on Māori and Pacific disabled learners and other target groups.
  • Advanced digital literacy skills necessary to undertake all aspects of learning development delivery.
  • The ability to work with a variety of online tools including the Internet, a customer management system, and a learner record system.
  • Or be willing to acquire knowledge of Assistive Technology used by disabled learners.
  • Applicants must possess an ability to respond to learner and tutor needs in a flexible and timely manner.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent listening, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advocacy, problem solving and negotiation skills.
