About the Auckland System Management (ASM) Alliance

The ASM is an alliance between HEB Construction, Fulton Hogan and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to operate and maintain Auckland's motorway network. The Alliance is expected to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as suppliers to deliver exceptional outcomes for customers using the Auckland transport system. Estimated project dates are from July 2019 to June 2028.

The role:

We are looking for an Operations Tactician to help ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Auckland Network State highways and motorways. Based at the Auckland Transport Operations Centre (ATOC), this role requires specific people management functions, as well as a high degree of planning and organising as the resource co-ordinator and response tactician. You will be responsible for a wide range of duties including:

  • Collaborating and maintaining strong relationships with our transport partners
  • Responding to incidents on the ASM Network and manage the impact of events on the wider network by co-ordinating various resources in real-time, providing valuable insight and informing tactics
  • Maintaining network readiness and preparedness in the event of an incident
  • Take responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and your team, ensuring all work is implemented in a way that risks are identified early, appropriate mitigations are in place and safety standards are adhered to
  • Developing skills to evaluate incident scenes, conduct risk analysis and respond with appropriate solutions to effect asset restoration without delay
  • Identify and escalate as appropriate any safety issues observed on the network
  • Ensure compliance of all legal requirements, roading and safety codes, and other regulations

About you:

This is the perfect opportunity for an individual with the ability to think quickly on their feet to aid the safe and efficient response to incidents on the network. Other essential skills and experience include:

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in road construction, road maintenance or network management.
  • STMS Level 2/3 Non-Practicing advantageous
  • Ability to undertake risk assessment, or formal risk management experience or training
  • Appreciation of interpersonal communication
  • Previous experience working in the high-capacity motorway corridor or roadway advantageous
  • Customer Driven - Clearly understands the internal and external customer and is dedicated to meeting their expectations and requirements.

  • Accountability - Faces up to problem situations quickly and directly and doesn't hold back when action needs to be taken
