At Novus Gower, we are now seeking Vocational Instructor professionals to join the education team at HMP & YOI Parc (Heol Hopcyn John, Coity, Bridgend CF35 6AP) as Simulation Vocational Instructor. 10 Star Simulation Instructor- Training will be provided to use the simulator and Key focus areas will be: Counter Balanced Forklift Truck, Car Driving, HGV Class 1 and Tracked 360 Excavator. This is a Permanent role on a full time, working 40 hours per week basis.

About the role

The role is intended to lead learners to utilise cutting edge driving simulation technology (Tenstar) to develop a range of skills using a virtual environment to practice operating driven machinery such as HGVs, forklifts, tractors and agricultural machinery. As this is new technology, we are not anticipating that applicants will have direct experience using such simulators, we are looking for someone with a background in vocational training who is able to learn quickly and work flexibly to support our learners.

In this role, you will work and be supported by our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our learners to develop their practical skills which will, in turn, help them to secure employment opportunities post-release. You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach to our learners who have 'hit a bump in the road' but want to learn and improve. Working in a prison is different to a mainstream education facility.

We operate with security at the forefront of what we do, so our class sizes are small to maximise supportive delivery. To aid this you also will be supported by Learning Support Practitioners who will support with one to one when required. Our security team are on hand to ensure the lessons run smoothly. We always try to cater to a learner's individual needs and ensure we create a positive learner experience. Time will be given to planning and your local education manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed.

Delivery happens between Monday and Friday and weekends are strictly for rest and relaxation.

What we need from you

To be successful in the role of Vocational Simulation Instructor, you will need:

  • Qualified to formal Education standard.
  • Hold PTTLS or EAT level 3 or similar.
  • Health and Safety qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Qualification in subject area confirming expertise and skills in trade.
  • Demonstrable proficiency and knowledge of Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, Health & Safety and Service Industries.
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to motivate self and learners.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Work under own initiative.
  • Understanding of Curriculum Cymraig.
  • Understanding of Estyn
