From the exceptional service at the check-in counter to the departure gate, and even behind the scenes making sure your checked bags arrive with you, our Airport Operations team keeps operations at our airports running smoothly every single day.

Key Responsibilities:

Chief of Staff – Airport Operations reports directly to United’s Senior Vice President of Airport Operations. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will oversee the coordination of and attendance at critical meetings, ensure the operations divisions are tracking key objectives and goals, and align all Airport Operations leaders around the envisioning, design and execution of key strategic objectives.

  • Support the SVP by serving as a liaison for the entire organization in managing meetings, coordinating event agendas, ensuring consistent follow-up and supporting efforts to help strategic ideas take root
  • Build/maintain Board of Directors’ level quality materials and decks
  • Serve as a trusted advisor/strategic partner to the SVP and direct reports by interacting with other leaders within the company to identify, advance and resolve emerging issues in anticipation of any business challenges
  • Drive a cohesive approach in ensuring organizational priorities are being met
  • Support, advise, coordinate, and collaborate on critical initiatives in alignment with United's objectives and directives
  • Enable integration across the organization to identify issues that serve as barriers to the department operating at maximum efficiency
  • Provide ownership over ad-hoc analysis of ops performance

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Business Administration, Engineering, Finance or Operations field
  • 7 years relevant work experience in an operational function leading/coordinating large scale projects
  • 3-5 years leadership experience
  • Solid understanding of employee relations (including Labor) and drivers of employee engagement
  • General understanding of current operational initiatives
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge
  • Strong strategic thinking capability
  • Excellent consultative/mentor/collaboration/influencing skills required, including confirmed ability in establishing credibility and demonstrating diplomacy when leading multiple business partners and key collaborators
  • Strong discernment, and understanding of the business
  • Ability to drive clarity from ambiguity and adapt quickly to a changing environment
  • Analytical problem solver with a creative and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization
  • Validated ability to evaluate and interpret presentations and Excel models
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's degree
  • Preference for prior experience in Airport Operations, Technical Operations, Network Operations, Corporate Safety or Contact Centers
  • Preference for prior experience in analyzing, interpreting, and driving insights from operations data
  • Familiarity in operational definitions and data sources for key performance metrics in operations
