The Travel & Lifestyle Services (TLS) business provides exclusive access to best-in-class travel and lifestyle programs and benefits, extraordinary service, and unrivaled expertise to Card Members seeking leisure or business travel.

With a deep understanding of our customers’ needs and a pulse on evolving travel trends and innovation in the international markets, the Global Strategic Partnerships and Marketing (GPM) organization is shaping the future of travel and transforming the value proposition of TLS travel benefits to maintain our strength in the leisure travel industry. GPM leads negotiations with travel supplier partners to provide premium Card Members access to a trusted network of carefully curated brands and exclusive benefits. We reciprocate for our supplier partners through a disciplined, data-driven marketing strategy designed to increase customer engagement, revenue growth and deliver incremental share to strategic partners and TLS.


This Director of U.S. Airline and Car/Limo Partnerships will represent American Express Travel to strategic airlines, car and limo companies and key internal stakeholders. This new Director will lead a team focused on managing and expanding centralized air programs and Car Rental benefits, delivering on revenue targets and creating a strategy to drive engagement in TLS. They will partner with Marketing to streamline the air product offering and create consistent, clear and compelling claims that will be amplified across all customer touch points. Additionally, this Director will identify new opportunities to drive value in car/limo benefits while partnering with business partners to improve the customer experience and drive engagement. This Director position will have three direct reports, with team members located across the U.S.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage all preferred airline, car and limo relationships across the US Market
  • Negotiate contract renewals, special offers and other card-member value related initiatives for global air programs and ground transportation
  • Work closely with the Global Customer Experience Team to enhance the customer experience across air and ground transportation bookings
  • Negotiate local value for air and securing local inventory for lodging, cruise and tour
  • Work closely with stakeholders in TLS market leadership, Card and Merchant teams to understand local dynamics and educate on the TLS international value proposition
  • Work collaboratively with other TLS teams on contracting, capability development and partner-based marketing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communicator, with the ability to influence and drive decisions with external partners and across the Blue Box
  • Strong strategic thinker with growth mindset that can pull in multiple viewpoints to ensure we serve our Card Members, partners and the business
  • Proven ability to flex between the broad strategic picture and the highly tactical day to day operations
  • Strong and proven people leader, with the ability to lead a large multi layered organization
  • Self-starter who looks for creative solutions while possessing an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize initiatives
  • 15% travel required (including international travel)
  • 6+ years of work experience

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Established comfort with technology and back-end operations
  • Possess a solid understanding and passion for the luxury and travel industries
  • Partner management experience a plus

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
