Role SummaryÂ
The Medical Assistant at GenesisCare is a specifically trained individual who demonstrates expertise in dealing with patients during all aspects of care. Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Physician(s) or Physician’s designee.Â
Reporting lines:Â
The Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant reports directly to the Center Leader in the absence of a Nurse Manager with a dotted line to the Director of Nursing. There are no direct reports to this position.Â
Key responsibilities:Â
The Medical Assistant provides care to the patients under direct supervision at GenesisCare following the principles of evidenced based best practice.  Â
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team as it relates to patient careÂ
Work under the direct supervision of the Physician(s), APPs, and NursesÂ
Assist as directed by the physician(s) and/or APPs in procedures/treatmentsÂ
Draw blood for various lab tests as orderedÂ
Responsible for cleaning and restocking consult rooms, as needed.Â
Provide patient education as directed by physicians/APPs/nursesÂ
Accurately document patient data; past and current medical history, allergies, medicationsÂ
Obtain vital signs and report any abnormal findings to the physicians/APPs or nursesÂ
Administer medications under the supervision of the physician(s) that aligns with GenesisCare policy and procedureÂ
Maintain open communication with front office personnel and members of the health care team.Â
Schedule and follow-up to assure completion on all diagnostic studies that are ordered including proper documentation and obtain physician’s signature on test result.Â
Acquire results and notify physician(s) of results on all interim reports.Â
Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, family, and friendsÂ
Attend annual OSHA/Biomedical update meetings and application in the clinical setting Â
Protect patients and their families by adhering to HIPPA and infection control policy and procedureÂ

Proficient in computer documentation with knowledge of Microsoft applicationsÂ
Properly control the release of proprietary and confidential informationÂ
Scheduling appointments and diagnostic tests as directed by physician/APPÂ
Obtain prior authorizations from insurance companiesÂ
 Handle correspondence, test results, etc.
Education and Experience:Â
Essential:Â
High School DiplomaÂ
1 year experience as a Medical Assistant preferredÂ
Current BLS certificationÂ
If applicable to your state: Certification/Registration as a Medical AssistantÂ
