About the Role

The Ads & Personalization team builds the end-to-end Machine Learning models and backend systems for personalized organic and Ads ranking and recommendation systems through UberEats Feed, Search, Storefront and Shopping Experiences. We are supporting a more personalized, intelligent, and delightful user experience on UberEats to support the hyper growth of Uber's multi-vertical delivery business including Restaurants, Grocery, Convenience Stores, Alcohol, Prescription, etc.

This role leads efforts across the UberEats organization to drive the long-term strategy, design, development, optimization, and productionization of ML or ML-based solutions and systems that are used to solve strategically important problems for personalized Ads and organic search and recommendations.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and grow the team. You attract top talents to the shared vision of the team, create and refine the team structure to scale. At the same time, you mentor and coach individual contributors to grow both technically and managerially
  • Lead the teams that will be responsible for a number of charters within the Delivery mission, including large scale applied machine learning on Recommender systems, Search, Ads, Content relevance etc.
  • Be a thought leader in building the long term vision and tech for Ads & Personalization at Uber
  • Collaborate with and influence other teams. You Partner effectively with Data Science, Product, and Ops to drive and shape the technical direction, both in terms of systems and modeling frameworks
  • Strategize and influence the product vision and roadmap in collaboration with the product and business team
  • Have an excellent executive presence to communicate the team's vision/plan effectively and represent the engineering organization and POV in the overall Delivery area
  • Translate the strategic roadmap into a practical execution plan with quarterly OKR's
  • Set up processes to handle ad hoc support requests from customers, sales, and make sure the general execution cycle is not disturbed
  • Develop an operational model to achieve operational excellence for Product metrics and Engineering metrics

Basic Qualifications:

  • MS/Phd in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in software development
  • 3+ years of experience as a people manager
  • Collaborative and works well with, while contributing to, a cross-functional team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and experience working with large cross-functional and diverse teams
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Strong in computer science fundamentals, software engineering principles and development methodologies
  • Experience with development and deployment of machine learning technologies into products
  • Experience with setting and driving innovation strategies at both technical and organizational levels to drive business objectives.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$252,000 per year - USD$280,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$252,000 per year - USD$280,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$252,000 per year - USD$280,000 per year.
