Nelspruit Area – Mpumalanga: Our client is looking for a Head of Farm Operations to join the team.

Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Relevant tertiary qualification in agriculture, natural sciences or business management
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in farm production management, with deep horticultural knowledge of avocados and litchis is beneficial
• Excellent leadership ability to build and lead a strong team of value contributing employees
• Excellent operational planning, decision making and prioritisation skills
• Strong attention to detail, communication and people management skills
• Good understanding of labour legislation and maintenance of farm machinery and infrastructure
• Computer literacy and understanding data and technology driven approaches to supporting core production practices
• Strong strategic leadership ability to contribute to company strategy development
• Valid driver’s license

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide continuous input into the Company’s strategy development
• Full P&L responsibility for all the Company’s farming operations in South Africa, drawing up and managing budgets
• Report on all aspects of production units’ input and output efficiencies
• Lead and manage a team of farm managers and provide support to various joint venture farming operations
• Responsible for the production of avocado, litchi and pecan nuts
• Manage record keeping of all production activities and compliance with company policy and accreditation systems (Global Gap, SIZA, RFA)
• Implement internal controls for procurement and stock management
• Manage irrigation and machinery maintenance to ensure optimal utilisation
• HR management in line with Company policy
• Manage and coordinate security of farm assets and produce.
