Duties/Pligte
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the DVO and SAGWRI;
- Expanding existing and developing new modules in sensory science, with a focus on grapes and wine;
- Creating an active research programme in sensory science, with a focus on grapes and wine;
- Developing national and international industry partnerships and networks;
- Sourcing and managing external research funds;
- Supervision of postgraduate students;
- Leading and expanding the sensory facilities and offerings at the DVO/SAGWRI/Faculty of Agriculture;
- Offering short courses on sensory science at the DVO/SAGWRI;
- Involvement with administrative duties at departmental, Faculty and University level.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- PhD in Oenology/ Wine Biotechnology, Food Science or an equivalent field, with a focus on sensory science and wine composition;
- Proven experience in, or the ability to actively participate in, an undergraduate teaching programme in wine related subjects such as, but not limited to, wine sensory science;
- A keen interest to participate in transdisciplinary research, such as linking sensory to chemistry of beverages, cultural and physiological aspects, etc.;
- An excellent understanding of and experience in sensory methods and procedures;
- Relevant statistical analysis proficiency, especially towards designing, processing and interpreting sensory experiments, data and results;
- Proficiency to obtain external research funding, commensurate with the level of appointment;
- Peer-reviewed scientific publications in wine or grape related sensory science, commensurate with the level of appointment;
- Postgraduate student supervision, commensurate with the level of appointment;
- The ability to work within a team context and within the broader context of the academic department and its administration.
