Duties/Pligte

  • Facilitating the process of establishing sustainable transformation committees in academic departments, faculties and support environments;
  • Advising, supporting and resourcing faculty and PASS environment transformation committees on transformation strategy and programming to support the implementation of the Transformation Plan;
  • Advising, supporting and resourcing departmental and faculty management, including Deans, Vice-Deans, Chief and Senior Directors on transformation strategy and programming to support the implementation of the Transformation Plan;
  • Facilitating processes in faculties and PASS environments to support the implementation of the Transformation Plan and environment transformation priorities linked to the various environmental plans and strategic processes guided by the faculty and PASS managers;
  • Developing training programmes that address the transformation needs of Faculty and PASS environments. In this regard further directing links which include engagements with the Equality and Disability Units currently housed within the Division of Student Affairs;
  • Identifying the need for transformation symposia and faculty-based platforms to share practices and learning;
  • Co-ordinating the creation, curation and maintenance of an SU Online Transformation Resource Hub. The Hub will serve as an easy and convenient point of access to all SU transformation related policy, training, reports, academic analysis, events and other environment specific resources (such as Faculty Charters). It will pull together the collective resources of the SU Transformation Infrastructure including the Equality Unit, the Disability Unit, Employment Equity and Staff Wellness. It will also provide access to relevant national policy frameworks and reports. Through providing this access to information it will contribute to the enabling and empowerment of all members of SU to action (i.e. embed) transformation in their own environments as per the imperatives of the Transformation Plan;
  • Developing an online self-study course in `Critical diversity literacy for higher education' as part of the Siyakhula Training Programme, expanding the training modalities of the programme for greater reach and impact;
  • Conducting research into diversity, inclusion and transformation monitoring and evaluation frameworks and best practice in partnership with SU research portfolios as well as in collaboration with external partners (also at other universities);
  • Conducting impact assessments of transformation interventions and providing advice to the Transformation Office team for improvement. This will include impact assessments in regards to the communication campaigns driven by the Communications Officer, programmes driven by the Programme Coordinator, programmes driven by the Programme Manager: Diversity Capacity Development, and the online self-study course;
  • Updating the indicators for and compiling the annual SU report on Transformation to be submitted to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). This high level report is shared widely internally including with the Rectorate (with full engagement on the report), the General Managers Meeting, the Institutional Forum and with Council (via the report of the DVC: Social Impact, Transformation and Personnel);
  • Keeping abreast of national and international developments in diversity, inclusion and transformation programming and monitoring and evaluation, by maintaining contact with players in the field (e.g. professional associations, educational groups and academics), and presenting research papers at national and international conferences.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
  • MPhil in Diversity Studies or equivalent master's degree on NQF 9;
  • Theoretical training in and understanding of issues of diversity and transformation;
  • Research skills, particularly monitoring and evaluation;
  • At least five years' experience in higher education;
  • Experience in the development and presentation of training material and skills development programmes for staff;
  • Ability to engage with a variety of cultures and context both inside and outside the university;
  • Competencies and experience in project management and strong organisational skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency in report writing;
  • MS Office proficiency.
