Duties/Pligte

• Strengthening the academic programmes offered by the CMEL;
• Undertaking teaching, learning and assessment within undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes of the CMEL using innovative methods;
• Coordinating relevant evaluation and research activities to inform the continuous improvement of the teaching and learning initiatives;
• Leading and coordinating bioethics research within the Centre's strategic research focus areas;
• Actively publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals;
• Providing research supervision and mentorship to staff and postgraduate students;
• Organising CPD activities, short courses and seminars in bioethics/medical law;
• Fostering collaboration and engagements in the Faculty, University, and with other educational and research institutions;
• Securing funding to support research, training, or service delivery;
• Serving on the Clinical Ethics Committee (CEC) of Tygerberg Hospital;
• Responding to queries received via the Ethics Hotmail and Ethics Hotline in the Centre;
• Assisting with the annual bioethics seminar and conferences hosted by the Centre.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• PhD (preferably in Bioethics);
• Work experience in a health sciences or related environment;
• Expertise and/or experience in empirical research in bioethics;
• Evidence of postgraduate research supervision;
• Experience in teaching and coordination of postgraduate programmes;
• A publication record in bioethics;
• Proactive management and networking skills;
• The ability to work independently and in a team.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• Demonstrated success in obtaining funding for research;
• Proven record of scholarly and scientific achievement and the ability to maintain it;
• Track record of research and teaching and learning in bioethics;
• Experience in developing a curriculum;
• An interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving;
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
