Duties and responsibilities:
  • Facilitate an academic literacy course, either online or face-to-face, in English for 4 hours per week (1 group).
  • Responsible for classroom assessment of subject content and marking (in close collaboration with the module coordinator).
  • Assist students with online components of the literacy course, such as the extensive reading programme and the grammar course.
  • Keep student records in terms of marks and attendance and other administrative tasks in relation to facilitating.
  • Keep a time schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure proper written and oral communication with students.
  • Maintain good communication with the module coordinator as well as the administrative officer.
  • Maintain sensitivity towards students who experience problems.
  • Attend compulsory training sessions, as well as regular teachers’ meetings (either online or face-to-face).
Inherent Job requirements:
Academic Facilitator
  • A Bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 7.
  • English at a third-year level for English classes OR appropriate qualification, e.g., TEFL/ CELTA/ TESOL.
  • Good academic record (please attach).
  • The ability to work and teach online as well as face-to-face.
Recommendations:
  • TEFL qualification or appropriate post-graduate qualification.
  • Teaching experience in an English literacy programme.
  • Teaching qualification and teaching experience.
