We are currently seeking an individual with centreless grinding experience for our first & second shift manufacturing operation. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of related grinding experience and at least 2 years’ experience in a lead or trainer role. Experience with Royal Master centreless grinders is preferred.

This is a full-time permanent position. Salary negotiable commensurate with experience.

Key responsibilities

Lead Centreless Grinder:

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot grinding or centreless machines to grind external cylindrical or tapered surfaces of workpieces to blueprint specifications. (Ability to set up and operate Royal Master Centreless Grinders required).
  • Set up and operate precision grinding machines with special indexing equipment.
  • Read blueprints and job orders for product specifications, interpret machining instructions to determine grinding and sequence of operations.
  • Mount grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles with wrenches, and dress wheel to specifications using dressing devices.
  • Verify dimensions of ground workpiece for conformance to specifications, using measurement instruments such as micrometres, calipers, and other precision gauges.
  • Start machine and monitor functional operation to qualify functionality.
  • Change, adjust, or reset grinding wheels as needed to maintain conformance to part specifications.
  • Position and secure workpiece on mandrel between centres or in chuck.
  • Manually adjust machine controls to index workpiece and feed wheel to workpiece, adjusting depth of cut in part by sight and feel while holding tolerances of +/-0.0001″ or +/-0.002mm.

Training and Mentoring New and Existing Staff:

  • Mentor new and existing staff, provide regular feedback, delegate, and review the progress of assigned work to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Train and instruct new and existing staff on job functions and the proper use of equipment.
  • Sustain and drive lean manufacturing and 5S activities, ensure compliance with established safety policies and procedures.
  • Interpret daily productivity expectations, organise employees and equipment to fulfil daily targets.
  • Alert to the activity of the team and equipment being used as it relates to the quality of work being performed, along with the health and safety of the team. Keep instructional aids available along with quality controls and checks in place.
  • Engage supporting team members to establish root causes of productivity or product inadequacies, and collaboratively find solutions that improve and prevent recurrence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Leaving Certificate and post-secondary education/apprenticeship in a related technical field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
  • Must have at least 3 years’ related grinding experience (preferably with Royal Master centreless grinders).
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in a lead or trainer role.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability
  • Experience working in a regulated environment with adherence to Quality Systems.
  • Knowledge and skills using Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Kaizen methods and practices.
  • Fluent verbal and written English.
  • Good communication, delegation, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills with a drive for results – can build and lead a team to get things done.
  • Ability to independently manage workload from end to end.
