Your team responsibilities:

MSCI is seeking an Associate, Business Intelligence and Analytics for Index Finance to support the financial management and financial operations of MSCI’s award winning Index business. MSCI’s Indexes facilitate the construction and monitoring of portfolios in a cohesive and complete manner, powering better investment decisions for a better world. Additionally, the Associate, as part of Index finance, will partner closely with the MSCI Global Index Product team, which is responsible for the ongoing construction and commercialization of all MSCI Market Cap, Factor, Thematic, Custom and ESG Indexes for both Equity and Fixed Income. Being able to effectively communicate and visualize data driven observations and recommendations is a critical contribution to the success of the overall product area.

Your key responsibilities
The Associate will be part of a global finance team, with team members largely based out of New York and Mumbai, collectively responsible for the financial management and financial leadership of MSCI’s award winning Index business. The Associate will be responsible for advancing key finance initiatives as part of the Index finance team:
In this role they will lead Index Finance in enhancing data reporting, availability, governance, and visualization which will be used to help drive commercial outcomes for the organization
The role will also contribute heavily to the overall financial management of the Index business. In addition to overhauling data visualization and accessibility, the candidate will be expected to identify key analytical insights to contribute to commercial decision making
This role will partner closely with senior Index finance team members to drive the day-to-day deliverables, with a specific focus on progressing driving business intelligence initiatives that contribute to strategic decision making.
The Index finance team also works closely with the Index Product organization on all strategic initiatives. The Associate will contribute to this effort through advanced modeling and financial analysis, and help to effectively communicate through presentations and materials for senior management, and C-suite level stakeholders.
The Index finance team further collaborates across the broader organization, from Technology and Data, to Research, Investor Relations, FP&A and Controllership, Legal, and others, and the Associate will be responsible for an active role in collaborating with peers across these functions.

Detailed responsibilities
  • Work closely with senior Index finance team members to drive proactive financial management and better insight into the economics of our business to drive growth and operating efficiencies, on an ongoing basis
  • Develop and maintain dashboards to visualize data utilizing Power BI. Work cross functionally to ensure BI tools are accurate, consistent, and can be used to drive commercial outcomes for stakeholders
  • Develop analyses and frameworks to provide commercial and business insights using data in order to better identify and execute financial management initiatives, on an ongoing basis
  • Work regularly with broader Index organization to ensure that data transparency and visualization is driving commercial outcomes for the organization
  • Obtain, document, and analyze reporting needs and requirements for the Index Finance team. Streamline and improve the data reporting and visualization of the organization
  • Prepare strategic materials, product P&Ls and scorecard reports internally, as well as presentations for C-suite and Board of Directors
  • Develop ad-hoc reports and drive strategic projects as necessary, particularly where an expertise in BI is required
  • Comfortable owning a book of work with the expectation of being able to individually execute on assignments
  • Leverage reports, dashboards, and data to help drive commercial outcomes across the organization
  • Provide data driven analytical observations, summaries, and recommendations
  • Ability to handle various data sources, using data modeling work to develop reporting capabilities that result in commercial outcomes
  • Assist in Strategic Planning & Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Quarterly Forecast related activities and processes
  • Build and manage close working relationships with Index Product leaders and stakeholders across other business lines and functional areas

Your skills and experience that will help you excel:
  • The ideal candidate should have 3-5 years experience in computer science, business finance/accounting roles. A strong background in business intelligence, dashboarding, and data maintenance is required

  • Strategic mindset that has experience leveraging data to help solve complex problems, drive analytical insights, and comfortable working self sufficiently
  • Experience working in an operational business finance or similar role, progressing & delivering on multiple priorities with varied timelines and stakeholders. Business intelligence background with thorough understand of data visualization is required, knowledge of FP&A best practices and/or P&L management preferred
  • Technical acumen; comfortable handling large amounts of data and leveraging financial systems to source information
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including ability to translate complex technical issues into strategic, fundamental concepts, create compelling presentations, and present to Index Product leaders with confidence and credibility
  • Strong relationship-building skills to build effective working relationships within the division and across the firm
  • Highly motivated, personable and capable of managing multiple tasks in a demanding and dynamic, global and hybrid work environment
  • Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Word & PowerPoint
  • Experience with/interest in any of the following a plus: MSCI competitive environment, capital markets and investment management industry trends, finance automation initiatives
