This is a job opportunity aimed to design and carry out human neuroscience involving human participants and the administration of short-acting psychedelic drugs, such as DMT. The Research Assistant will also be expected to assist in the supervision of MSc and MRes students associated to this project, as well as participate/collaborate in other research studies being carried out by the team. In addition, he/she will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To identify and develop adequate techniques, and apparatus, required for the collection and analysis of the data.
  • To collect data pertaining the administration of DMT and other short-acting psychedelics.
  • To assist with the analysis of data
  • To always ensure the validity and reliability of data
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • Write and publish the findings from these studies and maintain accurate and complete records of them.
  • To assist with the writing of reports to research sponsors
  • To present findings to colleagues
  • To provide advice to other staff and students
  • To assist with the write up and publication of findings from other projects form the team.
  • To attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary
  • To develop contacts within the College and the wider community
  • Contribute to the research of other team members and colleagues in psychological, neuroimaging and multi-disciplinary research involving psychedelic compounds.

Essential requirements

  • Knowledge and in psychology, neuroscience, and the brain action of psychedelic drugs – including specific pharmacology.
  • Previous experience in a research laboratory environment
  • Knowledge and experience in neuroimaging research methods and statistical procedures, including coding experience (e.g., MatLab).
  • Experience in human research involving neuroimaging studies employing DMT and human participants.
  • Knowledge of basic research methods and statistical procedures
  • Knowledge of general laboratory practice, techniques, and instrumentation
  • Experience in psychological research involving the effects of psychedelic drugs.
  • Experience in designing and carrying out simultaneous EEG research, and data analysis associated to this neuroimaging modality.
  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature, design and carry out a research protocol.
  • Ability to develop, operationalize, and apply new ideas and solutions.
  • Ability to learn methods to deal with problems effectively, and autonomously.

Further information

This is a part time (21 hours per week) and fixed term (12 months) role, and you will be based at the Hammersmith Campus.

The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
