Royal London is the UK’s largest mutual life, pensions and investment company. We’re owned by our members and work for their benefit, not for shareholder profits, and that makes us different.

We’re looking for people that love all things technology and want to kick start their career by working with us towards a degree apprenticeship. The four-year programme starts in September 2023 in our Group Technology and Operations area.

You’ll be joining a team of tech-savvy professionals who love to innovate and solve problems. From day one you’ll play an important role in making sure that our technology is secure, efficient and meets the future needs of the business.

What’s in it for you?
Earn while you learn – competitive salary with regular reviews
Generous pension scheme of up to 14%
Life assurance of up to 8 x annual salary
24/7 confidential access to health, legal and financial advice
A structured programme that will see you rotate around the Technology team
Support from a dedicated People Leader, Rotation Lead and Buddy in addition to the University’s network
Opportunity to join our inclusion networks, join events across the business and build your network

What will I be doing?

You’ll study part time towards a BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree at Manchester Metropolitan University

Each year you’ll spend around 30 days on campus in central Manchester, as a mix of day release and block teaching. Additionally, you’ll join an induction week to get to know other apprentices and help you balance undergraduate-level study with working full-time.

You’ll be assigned a university skills coach and workplace people leader who will undertake regular progress reviews and support you in your work and studies. You can read more about the course here .

Alongside your structured learning at Manchester Metropolitan University (20% of your time), you’ll work closely with our experienced team (80% of your time) on real projects that impact the lives of our customers and colleagues.

You’ll get hands on experience of designing, implementing and maintaining a range of business-critical technology solutions. With time you’ll begin to understand the interaction between people, systems and business performance.
As you learn and support with the day-to-day operations, we’ll look to you to show off your creative flair, bringing fresh perspective to existing processes and methodologies.

What skills and experience do I need?
Apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers. They’re for anyone that has a passion technology, no matter what stage their life and career
Due to the technical nature of the role and need for further study, you do need to have good academic results. This includes a minimum of 104 points at A2 (Grades BCC) or an equivalent e.g., BTEC DMM
In addition, you’ll need to have Maths and English language at GCSE grade A*-C
Intellectually curious, adaptable to change and not afraid to share new ideas and question the status quo
Proactive, driven to succeed and able to deliver multiple projects concurrently
Excellent verbal and written English language skills
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage with stakeholders across the business
Highly analytical, with strong attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

What else do I need to know?
You should be able to start work from mid August 2023 and attend University from early September 2023.
Our expectation is that colleagues will come into the office for 50% of their time. This hybrid model is built around our mutual mindset, thinking about what is good for us as individuals (the ‘me’) and in the context of what is right for our customers, our colleagues and the wider Royal London Group (the ‘we’). To give you the support and development needed, you may need to spend much more time in the office.
Your application should include a short cover letter that makes clear why you’re well suited to the role at Royal London. Exact dates are still to be confirmed, but if you’re selected for an interview then you’ll need to be available beginning of July for assessment centre and interview

At Royal London we believe your difference is our strength and our organisation benefits from the different perspectives that diversity brings. Studies have shown that people from under-represented groups are less likely to apply unless they meet every requirement. So, if you’re excited about this role but your past experience isn't a perfect fit with the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway as you may be the right candidate for this or other opportunities.
